HOW TO HELP AS A LANDLORD
DO
Connect the survivor with a domestic violence agency.
Learn the cycle of abuse. Oftentimes, a tenant might request that their abuser be removed from the property and then return to the abusive relationship. It can take numerous times for an individual to leave an abusive partner for good.
Believe your tenant when they confide in you about the abuse. Consider evicting the abusive partner if necessary or filing a restraining order to prohibit them from being on the property.
DO NOT
Judge or criticize tenants based off of their appearances. Oftentimes, abusive partners will isolate the survivor and prevent them from having any financial independence.
